Doula
In addition to helping women during pregnancy I also support couples during labour by acting as a doula. A doula is a woman who gives the mother and her family all the support needed to enjoy her pregnancy before, during and after the birth.
A doula believes in “mothering the mother” and empowering the new mother so that she and her family can enjoy this beautiful experience. The doula has knowledge of the physiological aspect of birth and of female physiology but she does not replace a midwife or a doctor. A doula does not give clinical advice or support.
Before the birth I meet the couple once or twice to discuss the birth plan and so we can get to know each other. I am also available for phone calls regarding the birth.
During labour I provide continuous support, reassurance and nurturing and may advise on posture, breathing, relaxation and movement.
After birth I follow up with up to two home visits to help the mother to settle at home with her newborn and to guide on breast feeding, etc.
The cost for Uby’s service is 500€, with a 250€ down payment upon hiring, after an initial consultation at no charge. The total fee covers the above described services within two pre-natal meetings, unlimited phone contact during the pregnancy, up to 24 hours of labour support, and post-partum visitation.
